SEO is big business, and it is getting bigger, recent articles have suggested sharp growth within the SEO projected in the coming years, however as more and more companies look to SEO agencies, we look at the changes in search engine algorithms and the methods applied in an attempt to get those all important listings.

More and more we are noticing web sites that are being optimized by agencies and of course at SEO Consult being passionate about Search Engine Optimization so like to analyze not only what our competitors do, but also the search engines and how they adapt to the methods used to gain rankings.

Many of the old techniques used for SEO are only causing rankings to drop or vanish from the search results, why? Well as technology develops in the world, so of course are search engines, the aim of a search engine is to provide the most relevant results to the end user, hence sites that have had SEO done to them in an attempt to gain higher rankings poorly are now being identified.

No longer are the days where you can just change the meta tags, lump a load of content onto the site and sit back for the results to come, the search engines are picking up the obvious quick win methods and sites are being penalized for using them.

SEO is long term, some of our recommendations for long term SEO strategy are detailed below, these are methods not to get quick wins for rankings for the purposes of Search Engine Optimization, but to build your authority and understand how to target your visitors correctly, if your visitors find your web site or pages relevant, so will the search engines:

Strategy: Form a solid SEO strategy, complete keyword research, look at long and short tail keywords and identify all the pages in your site that will be most relevant for the visitors searching these keywords to land, keyword tools or existing PPC data usually gives a good guide regarding suggestions.

Structure: Make sure your web site has a good structure, in particular make sure you have relevant pages for sets of your target keywords, ensure meta tags are optimized correctly so users understand what each page has to offer, and ensure your URL structure is good, if you can get the description of your page within your URL structure this will also add benefit to the end user.

Content: Create good content for your web site, do not just create a paragraph with your keywords in lots of times, this is know as keyword spamming, write a good piece of content for each page, explaining who you are, what you offer and any unique selling points you might have.

Authority: When your on page work is 100% building your authority is important, this is not about just getting links, it is about ensuring the web knows who you are, build your brand and build on what you offer, there are a number of methods that can be used, these include; Articles & Article Submissions, Directory Submissions, Blogs, Banner & Link Advertising, Press Releases are among just a few.

Off Page SEO is about building authority, showing the search engines that you are an important player within your topic, not just about how many inks you have.

Think carefully how you approach making sure your site targets its visitors, and have an overall strategy with a good mix.

Measure what you do, review traffic and rankings, use Analytics to review on site data and make tweaks to maximize your success.
